Cultural Activities
Polynesian
handicrafts are known for their extreme sophistication. Polynesian
craftsman (or "mama") creates hats, baskets and mats
with pandanus and coconut tree leaves. All items showcasing
their skills and dexterity.
InterContinental Resorts lets you discover
the cultural treasures of French Polynesia...We organize various
demonstrations focused on the local handicraft such as pareu
dyeing demonstration, tifaifai quilt making demonstration, flower
and shell lei making demonstration and basket weaving demonstration.
Pareo or Pareu
is very important in daily Polynesian life, as much for men
as for women who can tie this kind of sarong in a thousand
and one ways.
Monoi oil
has an important role in the Polynesian life, during traditional
rituals, for its medical properties or for body and hair beauty
treatment. In order to avoid mosquitoes the InterContinental
Resorts advise you to cover yourself with monoi oil.
Tifaifai:
hand sewn bedspreads displaying mostly vegetal patters. The
tifaifai is a traditional wedding present.
Te Tiare
Location: In Hotel - Heart of the Hotel
Serves: Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner
In
the heart of the hotel, the Te Tiare Restaurant opens out towards
Moorea, the Lagoon and a spectacular swimming pool, cascades and
jacuzzi. With its original tapa decor, the Te Tiare Restaurant
has been conceived as a amphitheater, with three levels to allow
our guests full enjoyment of the Tahitian dance show performing
3 times a week on the water's edge.
Le Lotus
Location: In Hotel - By the Lagoon
Serves: Lunch | Dinner
This is our overwater gastronomic restaurant
by the lagoon near the white sand swimming pool. In this elegant
and intimate atmosphere, enjoy refined service and our gourmet
menus with 3 stars Michelin Guide specialties from L' Auberge
de l'ill associated with Le Lotus Restaurant.
Nothing's higher than the coconut palms in our
low rise Polynesian-style resort of 263 rooms, suite and overwater
bungalows.
To make you feel you're in Tahiti, all accommodations
are attractively decorated in a tasteful and relaxing Colonial
Polynesian theme.
Garden View Rooms There are 78 of these rooms of the same size and decor as
the Ocean View Rooms. They are named for their location at garden
level, although most of them have at least a partial view of the
water. They have twin or king size beds in their 307 sq ft (28.5
sq m) rooms plus terraces. They are our most keenly priced accommodations.
Maximum Occupancy: 2 Guests.
Ocean
View Rooms Cosy and spacious 307 sq ft (28.5 sq. m) rooms and private
balconies, the 92 rooms have a combined configuration of twin
and king size bed. They are grouped around the central core of
the hotel and all have views across the lagoon to the reef and
the ocean beyond. Maximum Occupancy: 2 Guests.
Panoramic View Rooms At the secluded end of the resort are our largest rooms in
two buildings with just 30 rooms each, all with magnificent panoramic
views over the exquisite Lotus infinity pool, the lagoon and across
the Sea of Moons to Moorea. They have King or twin Queen beds
and measure a spacious 414 sq ft (38.5 sq m) without counting
the balcony. These rooms, along with our overwater bungalows,
are the top choice of many honeymooners. Maximum Occupancy: 2/4
Guests.
Overwater Bungalows
Motu Overwater
bungalows, modeled after traditional Polynesian houses called
fare, are perhaps the most romantic and certainly the most intimate
of our accommodations. They are roofed in traditional pandanus
leaves and situated on stilts over the lagoon itself. They all
have sundecks and platforms from where you can step off directly
into the lagoon waters for swimming or snorkeling or to contemplate
the sunset.
Motu is the Tahitian word for an islet, and
it's around our own little motu that we built 17 overwater bungalows.
The motu is situated directly on the lagoon, in front of the Lagoonarium,
the main pool and the central resort complex. It's a little heaven
of peace and tranquility.
These bungalows measure 328 sq ft (30.5 sq m)
plus sundecks and platforms and their bamboo decor creates a definite
feeling of Polynesia. Maximum Occupancy: 2 Guests.
