Located 1,184 km. (740 miles) northeast of Tahiti, the town of
Atuona is the administrative center for the southern Marquesas.
Framed in a theater of mountains with the Bay of Traitors providing
safe anchorage, Atuona is a favorite port of call for yachts and
copra ships.
Atuona village has a police station, a small
hospital, a post office, banks, weather station, an Air Tahiti
office, lodging, restaurants and snack bars, stores and shops,
telephones and TV. There is a Catholic mission with a boarding
school and a Protestant church.
The hotel is 20 minutes from the airport by
4 wheel drive. It takes 45 minutes to walk to the village of Atuaona,
20 minutes by bicycle or 10 minutes by a 4 wheel drive vehicle.

which also overlooks this remarkable scenery and offers the opportunity
to have breakfast in the open air and dinner by moonlight.
The Hiva Oa Hanakee Pearl Lodge is situated
on the side of a hill and offers stunning views of the bay of
Tahauku, the bay of the Traitors, the Bordelais canal, the small
islet of Hanakee, and in the distance, the island of Tahuata.
Facing the hotel is the majestic Mount Temetiu.

the surrounding countryside with views over the bay of Tahauku,
