Tahiti and Her Islands
Tahiti is located halfway between Los Angeles, and Sydney, Australia. Tahiti is the largest of the 118 islands and atolls that comprise the country of French Polynesia. The islands are scattered over 1-1/2 million square miles of ocean.


Getting There

Papeete, the international gateway city for the Tahitian Islands, is a 7.5 hour flight to Paradise from Los Angeles.


Entry Requirements

A valid U.S. or Canadian passport, and an onward or return ticket. Visas are granted for a 30-day stay upon arrival.


Tahiti's National Flower

Tiare, a fragrant white blossom flower, is placed behind one's ear. Placing the flower on the left side means you are taken, and the right side means you are available.


Language
French and Tahitian are the two official languages. English is widely spoken.


Currency
French Pacific Franc; U.S. Dollars are widely accepted; Major Credit Cards.


Tipping
Tipping is not customary and not expected.

Two hours behind Pacific Standard Time, the same as Hawaii (Three hours behind during Pacific Daylight Time).

Electricity
Most hotels have 110v outlets for electric shavers. For other appliances such as hair dryers, a converter/ adapter kit will usually be needed. Hotels may have either 110v or 220v systems.


Climate

French Polynesia enjoys warm, tropical weather year-round. The climate is divided into two seasons: a "summer" that spans from November through March, when the daily temperature is about 86° Fahrenheit, and most of the rain falls; and a drier "winter" that spans from April through October, when the daily temperature is about 82° Fahrenheit.
