Kona Village Resort Hotel

The Big Island, Hawaii, USA

Welcome to Kona Village Resort Hotel!

Kona Village Resort Hotel is closed indefinitely due to tsunami.

Hidden away on a secluded beach in a sheltered bay, the Kona Village Resort recaptures the atmosphere of Old Hawaii. Perfect for the traveler looking to get away, this charming resort forms a unique Polynesian village like those of old, with thatched-roof cottages specially made to insure peace and tranquility.

Spend your days playing tennis, loafing on the beach, learning to sail, swimming in one of two pools, or participating in a wide variety of watersports. Enjoy a choice of two wonderful restaurants, three comfortable lounges, and nightly entertainment.

Located 6 miles from the airport, and 16 miles from town.

  • Located on the site of an ancient fishing village, the resort is nestled on 82 acres of natural ponds and black-lava sand.
  • The 125 thatched-roof cottages, or hales, feature traditional Polynesian rooms with No phones, air conditioning, clocks, radios, or Televisions to distract you. In addition, there no vehicles beyond the sand parking lot, nor paved paths.
  • Children are discouraged during the “romance months” of May and September.
  • Kona Village is where celebrities come to relax and be treated like everyone else.
  • Kona Village Resort occupies the site of a fishing village that was home to 10,000 ancient Hawaiians. When they abandoned the site they left behind burial and ceremonial caves, petroglyphs, and a few lava-rock house foundations—all of which can still be seen. Guided tours explain the history and culture.

Formal restaurant on the beach. Pacific Rim cuisine served. Open five nights a week.

Bora Bora Terrace
This casual spot serves coffee drinks outdoors in the mornings and tropical drinks later in the day, and offers live musical entertainment nightly.

Shipwreck Bar
Appropriately named, this bar is housed in an actual shipwreck—a 37-foot wood ketch that ran aground in the bay and was hauled as far as workers were willing to go, then converted into a sunken bar.

Accommodations

On 82-acres, hugging the crescent curve of Kahuwai Bay, 125 individual hales offer guests a choice of picturesque garden views, tranquil lagoon settings and dramatic ocean panoramas. Ten styles range in size from intimate to large enough to accommodate multiple families. So distinctive is each hale that many guests request their same hale upon their return.

There are three distinctive areas of the resort where the accommodations are located.

The south side of the resort with the grassy and sandy areas, palm trees and tropical foliage is the favorite of most families or couples who enjoy a more South Pacific environment.

The lagoon area is a favorite of many of our guests who enjoy seeing and hearing the birds, ducks, swans and other wildlife found in very tropical settings. The water in the lagoons is brackish which eliminates most of the mosquitoes and bugs.

The hales on the north side are built on the 1801 lava flow. This gives a beautiful stark contrast between the brilliant blue Pacific, natural black lava and tropical foliage planted around the hales. The north side with its black sand beach is a favorite of couples who especially enjoy the peace, quiet and tranquility of Kona Village.
