Geography: Cancun is a tourist destination located in the state of Quintana Roo, on the Yucatan peninsula in southeastern Mexico. Cancun's Hotel Zone was selected by a computer as a lively spot for a government-backed resort development, and it was established in 1971. Cancun sits between the Caribbean Sea on one side, and the still waters of Laguna Nichupte on the other side.
